Third row for Waters in tricky qualifying conditions

Waters progressed from Q1 into Q2 and his first flying lap saw him in eighth place, just as the rain started to fall. However, as quickly as the rain came the sunshine followed, leaving the riders to contend with a drying track. Already guaranteed at least a third row grid spot, Waters didn't take any risks to qualify in ninth place.

Christian Iddon progressed from Q1 in an excellent fifth place, having made positive progress all weekend with the new setup of his GSX-R1000. Unfortunately he was caught out by the rainfall in Q2, not getting the chance to post a quick lap time before the track conditions changed. He will start from 14th.

Josh Waters,"It's definitely been a move forward again and I'll try my hardest tomorrow. We've got more things to try in warm up to hopefully keep us working in the right direction, but it's a decent spot on the grid and if we can make a good start hopefully we can have a good race."

Christian Iddon,"I abandoned my first fast lap in Q2 as I caught a rider in front and didn't want to be held up on my next lap, so I rolled off but then it rained and that was it. I'm disappointed and it's a shame as we had good pace. But it wasn't just me that it caught out and it's one of those things. All in all though I'm feeling positive to be fair. There's been a lot of progress made with the bike and it's working really well for me now. We have a few more things to try to keep improving it, and we'll give it a good go tomorrow."

The three free practice sessions have also seen the team work hard on the setups of both bikes, implementing a lot of data gleaned from the two tests at Snetterton and Knockhill, with both riders progressing their lap times in each session, and supplying positive feedback to the changes made.

Jack Valentine, Bennetts Suzuki Team Manager, said,"We've made lots of changes to the bikes over the weekend so far and we've continued that progression, and it shows with Christian's lap time in qualifying. He's responding well to the changes and is happy with how things are going, it's just a case of fine tuning it, but he was flying in qualifying. Sadly we've been done by the weather in qualifying and his grid position doesn't reflect where he can be tomorrow, but I'm sure he'll push his way through.

"Josh isn't quite as happy as Christian, but different riders have different riding styles so there are a few things we need to change to get Josh happy, but he's improved his lap times in each session and getting to Q1 is a reward for the effort he's putting in. We just need a good start in the first race and we can have a good race."

Qualifying Result: 1. Shane Byrne 2. Jason O'Halloran 3. Dan Linfoot 4. Josh Brookes 5. Tommy Bridewell 9. Josh Waters 14. Christian Iddon
