Kirkham & Halsall Biker Gear Kawasaki look to kick-start season at Knockhill

Halsall Biker Gear Kawasaki heads north to Knockhill this weekend, where the team begins a new chapter working with Derby-born rider, Jon Kirkham for the fourth round of the MCE British Superbike Championship.

Kirkham’s move to the team sees the twenty-nine year old reunited with team boss, Jack Valentine after a successful working relationship in the past which saw the 2010 National Superstock 1000 Champion take three British Superbike podiums in 2011, including his debut victory at Croft.

Kirkham will be looking to familiarise himself with both the team and his new Kawasaki ZX-10R over the weekend with a view of kick-starting his 2014 season.

Jon Kirkham: “I’m really excited to become part of the Halsall Racing Team. I was talking to Martin over the winter although it didn’t really work out for whatever reason but now it’s all come together. I’m looking forward to getting my season started now. It might be round four but if we get cracking and have a good few races and score as many points as we can I think we have the potential to do quite well.

"I worked with Jack back in 2011 and it was my best year in BSB so far so I’m hoping working with him again will help things click. I’ve had mixed results at Knockhill in the past; I surprised myself last year coming back from arm surgery and qualifying fourth so I know I can go fast there. The most important thing is to get settled with the team, we’ve got a lot of work to do so the plan is to go there and do what we need to do.”

Jack Valentine, Team Manager: “I’m looking forward to getting to Knockhill and hopefully getting ourselves in the position where we can score points. It will be good to work with Jon again and if we can work together like we have in the past then I think we could have a good meeting.

"He won’t be under any pressure, we will spend the free practice sessions making sure he’s happy with the bike and has a good set-up and if we do that right and Jon’s happy, a happy rider is a fast rider so we can hopefully have a good weekend!”
