Positive start for Valmoto MV Agusta

The Valmoto MV Agusta team has kicked off its 2013 road racing season with a positive performance in this morning’s practice session at the North West 200. Gary Johnson, who is contesting the infamous Northern Irish event aboard the Metzeler-shod MV Agusta F3 675, completed four laps of the nine-mile public roads racing course in preparation for the first Supersport race on Thursday 16 May.

This morning’s session marks the first real on-track outing for the Valmoto MV Agusta team, which is spearheaded by experienced team manager Jack Valentine. However, despite limited testing time and changeable weather conditions at the event, both Valentine and Johnson are pleased with the progress the team has made with the overall set-up of the bike.

The Valmoto MV Agusta team will now spend the next two days analysing valuable data obtained from the first practice session in order to make changes to the chassis ahead of the second practice session later this week.

Team Owner, Jack Valentine, said: “Our primary focus today was making sure we had a good set-up, rather than fast lap times, and we’re feeling really positive about the F3’s performance so far, especially since we’ve only had the bike running once before this event. The strong winds led to some stability problems with the bike, particularly at high speeds, but we’re confident we can make some improvements to the chassis so we can really take advantage of the course’s two long straights."

Gary Johnson said: “I’m generally pleased with the MV F3. Although we’ve had some high-speed stability issues, it’s important that we resolve these with the chassis in order to get a good feeling at this challenging course.”
