So near yet so far

Well what can you say!? We missed out on championship glory by 0.006 of a second. It doesn’t get much closer than that! But to be on the losing side after a year like we have had is a real tough pill to swallow. We did everything right, the team has surpassed all that was asked, so to come away with nothing is a real killer for everyone.

We came so close last season, with Tommy falling in the penultimate race and now this year Tommy has broke our hearts again, this time taking the title for the Swan Yamaha team and defeating Hopper in the process. Sadly racing is full of ups and downs and it is easy to look back and think what if, but we have to be happy with the job we have done regardless of the end result.

The final race on Sunday has to be one of the most talked about races in the last ten years and that can only be great for the series, the fans and the riders. Excitement, tension, heartache and jubilation were all present on Sunday and that made for a great spectacle. It was an unbelievable experience and one I am pleased we were able to be part of, but for sure my guys are gutted. They gave everything.

As a team manager it is always a nice feeling to have two strong, eager and capable riders and this year we had that in abundance with Hopper and JK. They seriously did give everything. Hopper impressed us all with his commitment, positivity and openness and he really did show his class this year. It has been a real pleasure working with such a true professional and we will all hold a lot of fond memories. He is one special rider.

Also JK, he has been on one hell of journey this year, he has had his fair share of ups and downs but at Brands he really stepped up and showed everyone why we rate him so highly. He can challenge the best in the championship and is defiantly one of the top riders in the series that’s for sure. He made a huge step up in class this year and at times it has been hard for him, but the last few rounds he has found his feet and looks comfortable riding with the leaders. He also has been a pleasure to work with.

I must also say a huge thanks to all the guys who gave the riders the tools to do the job week in, week out. Both Lez, Dale and their respective crews have been ultimate professionals all year and without them we wouldn’t have been so close to taking the title. I must also say thanks to all the team sponsors, Samsung and FIXI for their amazing support and commitment to our efforts and all the fans for their unrivalled support. It has been another roller coaster of a ride and one I will always remember. All that is left to say is… bring on 2012!
