Jack's blog

Hi everybody. It's been an action-packed winter for Valmoto. There hasn't been much time to sit down and relax, although Doris and I had a chilled out Christmas with the family. We also managed to get to squeeze in a week's skiing in Austria, as we do most winters.

Everybody's looking forward to the 2009 season and preparations are going really well. We're delighted that Sylvain Guintoli has joined us and I'm sure he'll be an asset to us and will be competing at the sharp end of the championship from the outset. At the end of last season our brief was to find an exciting, competitive rider, and in Sylvain I think we have both bases covered. Although he doesn't know all of the circuits on the BSB calendar yet, he's been out in track cars at Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Snetterton and Cadwell Park. He's also been watching DVDs to learn the correct lines to take at each of the circuits on the schedule. I'm sure all this preparation will stand him in good stead next season.

We've also been busy developing the engine for the 2009 bike. We're still waiting for a few parts from the factory, but everything is starting to slot into place. We're testing in Calafat in February, then again in March at Almeria and Guadix. It'll be a great opportunity for us to evaluate the work we've already done and plan further development.

A lot has been made of how much the British Superbike Championship could change in 2009. Although many of the riders at the top of the Championship have now moved on to the World Superbike Championship, I still think the domestic series will be as competitive as ever. The same teams will still be competing at the top, and although the faces may have changed, the action will still be intense. We're aiming to be right in the midst, challenging for podiums and race wins.

I'll post my next blog after the test in Calafat to let you know how it went!
