Rizla Suzuki ups the pace in Almeria

RIZLA SUZUKIS Tom Sykes and Atsushi Watanabe increased their already rapid pace during day two of the official Pirelli British Superbike test at Almeria in Spain.

Sunshine bathed the track allowing the riders to drop their lap times - Sykes improved by 1.5secs and Watanabe by 1.1secs.

In the morning, Sykes put his new Dainese leathers to the test when he suffered a high-side. Daineses finest protection did its job incredibly well, allowing him to walk away unscathed, however, his crash reduced his track time and he went on to complete a modest 53 laps in total.

Watanabe continued to learn the unfamiliar circuit and impressed everyone with his increased speed and accurate riding; he completed 70 laps.

Team Manager Jack Valentine commented: Today did go well despite Toms little spill. Both riders picked up the pace and if the sunshine holds they will go faster tomorrow. Our plan is to go for a race simulation; we need to see how durable the Pirellis are under those conditions. We have a good base setting and Im confident both our guys will improve.

A full report on the three day Almeria test will be published tomorrow evening (Wednesday), including lap times, on
