Sykes eager to get back on track

TOM SYKES cant wait to sling his leg over his Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000 as the team prepares for the first test of 2008 which will take place later this month at Calafat in Spain.

Sykes attended the National Motorcycle Show in Manchester last weekend and enjoyed his time with the race fans but is still anxious to get more riding under his belt before the season starts. He said: I enjoyed being at the show. I took part in a Question of Bikes on the Road and Racing Suzuki stand. I chatted with the fans and saw a few faces that I havent seen for a while so all in all it has been good.

We are heading out to Calafat again soon and weve a lot of testing coming up so Im really looking forward to this one, he enthused. Weve got more bits to test so I cant wait to get sifting through the parts, sorting them out and getting ourselves set-up for the opening round at Brands Hatch.

New Team Manager, Jack Valentine, has really gelled with Sykes and the pair worked well together at the last test. Jack is fantastic, my Crew Chief PJ, along with Simon and Stuart really make a nice little team, Tom explained. It is all working well and Im enjoying everything, we tested a lot of little bits and did some fine tuning. We are basically tailoring the bike to my needs and I think we have a good base setting for this point in time.

Valentines zest for every aspect of racing has been rubbing off on the team as Sykes said: The good thing about Jack is he is really passionate about it all which is good, and that is what you want from a team manager. He is making sure that we get the best out of what we have and he has a lot of testing scheduled which is superb - cant knock it!
